Solid Harmony Collective, the senior and alumni singers from the choir, were honoured to be invited to perform across Newham during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.

Thanks to Newham Council, we will always remember our important role in celebration the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and to Sheli for taking such amazing shots on the day!

Celebrate our Young Music Mentors!

The JUBILATION! National Choral Festival at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank on 4th June was a resounding success. Solid Harmony Seniors played a very important part in this. Their hard work, professionalism and musicianship helped to prepare the audience massed choir, co-ordinate the movements and pastoral care of the resident youth choirs over the prior weekend and during the final day and contributed to the beautiful sound of the on stage massed choir for the performance.

Amy Parkin, teacher from Park Primary school in Newham said,

“Thank you so much for a super weekend! The results were great and the kids got so much out of it! Could you please also pass on my thanks to the mentors who worked so hard and helped me to get my 5 into the right place so well whilst sorting out everyone else as well! They were fantastic and made the day a lot easier”.

This is just one of the many positive comments made by people involved in JUBILATION! preparation and performance over the past few months. Well done to our senior team! Here is a short evaluation film:

East London Choral Festival

A great way to end our term of work. Thank you Pam Hulme and the Isle of Dogs Community Choir for inviting us us to perform at your choral festival in The Space last Monday. What a great atmosphere. It was our privilege to sing All You Need Is Loveand Hymn To Freedom with you all again after our sharing at JUBILATION! Royal Festival Hall on the 4th June.

We enjoyed both your choirs, the children and the adults. Great versions of Say A Little Prayer and Bohemian Rhapsody!  We look forward to an opportunity to sing with you again.

Happy summer to all our supporters and if you’re around on the afternoon of 31st July, 1st and 2nd August, come and see our senior choir sing in Meridian Square, Stratford!

FLASHMOB MANIA! – 17th March 2012

Last Saturday, members from Solid Harmony senior choir appeared at Queen’s Market, Upton Park and simply began to sing! Passers by were drawn in and stall holders were amazing, joining in with a dance and a smile. One or two were less welcoming and the choir had to respond respectfully to find spaces to sing and dance that pleased and entertained the surrounding public!
Their confidence began to sing spontaneously in the street after a project funded by Newham’s Go For It Grant. They worked with different singing leaders, including Sovra Newman, Paul Watson and Geneta Crook to learn songs that can be sung with no other musical or technical support. The first time the choir tried their hand at a FLASHMOB was on their way to their Christmas party. Several of them could be heard resounding around Stratford Shopping Centre.
Look and listen out for Solid Harmony as their confidence grows! If you see them singing in the street, please come and join in!

Holocaust Memorial Day – 26th January 2012

Solid Harmony’s senior performance choir (SPC) were invited to sing for Holocaust Memorial Day at 8 Northumberland Ave, Trafalgar Sq, London.

The choir created and performed an opening fanfare, “Listen To My Voice (Speak Up, Speak Out)” and closed the ceremony with their own arrangement of “Courage” by Orianthi.

“Their voices sound amazing!  I got goose bumps! I am overwhelmed to be honest.  The Choir got me!  Such an incredible event and made perfect by the Choir.  A massive thank you please to each individual member who contributed to yesterday”

James Hurst, Acting Director for Speak Up, Speak Out  HMD 2012.

We were all deeply moved by all the presentations, especially the chanting of the Jewish prayer for the departed which was performed by Cantor Jonny Turgel. We’d like to thank the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust for involving us in this poignant reminder that each of us are responsible for speaking up and speaking out against intolerance and injustice in our world.

WELLCOME TRUST Celebrates 75 years!

Thanks to SERIOUS, Solid Harmony Senior choir had the privilege of being invited to sing on the steps of St. Davids Hall, Cardiff on Saturday as part of the 75th Anniversary of the  Wellcome TrustDame Gwyneth Jones listened to the singers and gave valuable advise about how we look after our vocal chords and sing with a ‘beautifully rounded sound’. As part of the overall project, Mr. Tom Harris, Specialist ENT surgeon to the stars, photographed 4 choir members vocal chords and explained in detail exactly how they work. We sang songs by people who also share a 75th birthday this year, including Dame Shirley Bassey, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Steve Reich. The choir included guest performers Emma Williams, Marina-Lolita Hart (ex-Revelation), and Eysha Mingo, along with other senior and alumni members of the choir. Thank you to SERIOUS for looking after us so well! We so enjoyed the experience and opportunity! (Click to see the gallery)

I caught you singing on a weekend away in Cardiff. Great sound, long may you reign!!

I happened to be passing the St.David’s hall in Cardiff while you were singing and I thought you were brilliant. Everybody were having a great time. I was wondering if you’ve made any CD’s and if so where can they be purchased. If you are visiting south wales again sometime in the future then I would love to come to a concert and bring my family. Well Done, keep singing!
