United Churches Together fund raising event, Wanstead 17th Oct

United Churches Together fund raising event, Wanstead 17th Oct For some time we have looked to find a way to support Richard House children's hopsice in Beckton. It was a joy and privilege to share the evening with so many other musicians and performers in the local community of Wanstead. We enjoyed the acoustic accompaniment provided by our very own Dian, Samuel and Junior.  David Spark, the organizer tells us that £192.4 pounds were raised!  Well done everyone and thanks for including us!

BBC Choirs Prom - Sunday 6th September 2009

Yes, it's Howard Goodall introducing US! We are honoured and proud to have been chosen to sing at the SING UP BBC Choir Prom on Sunday.  We combined forces with Gallions Primary School, representing East London as the East London Partnership Choir. It looks as though Jason and his friend will join Solid Harmony as a result! RESULT! On the bill with us was the wonderful London Oratorio choir, who rock!  Well done guys!

Thank you to Jo Hunter from Sing Up for the opportunity. It was great to see so many of our friends in the front row too, eminent people who have conducted us before - David Lawrence at the Royal Festival Hall and the Barbican in past years and Richard Frostick with Hugh Masekela at the Roundhouse, Sharon Durrant who has worked with some of Gallions Primary teachers. We feel a part on one big SINGING FAMILY! Onwards into 2010 and beyond!

Summer Days!

How August is flying! We do hope our friends and supporters, and (everyone else for that matter) are enjoying their summer. The choir is soon to begin meeting again after a 6 week break.

We hope to welcome several new members from 8th September onwards (drop us a line on the contacts page for more info). We already have bookings in the diary, a bonding weekend booked at the Isle of White PGL and a weekend recording date fixed at the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm, so an exciting year ahead!

But before this, we'll be full on rehearsing from 1st September for the BBC Sing Up Choirs Prom at the Royal Academy of Music on Sunday 6th September. Listen out for us on the radio!

Thank you for all your continued support and we look forward to seeing you at future events!

A joy and a privilege once again. Newham Young People's Chorus (NYPC) raise their game once again! Well done! Everyone who took part. We loved sharing the stage with 'Young n Gifted' too. We must try and get together soon guys! We also hope some of you keen singers in NYPC will come and join us next year. We expect high standards of commitment, but it's all worth it! Congratulations to Shirley Keane and Rachel Thomas for keeping the dream alive. Thanks for involving us!

Thank you Jack Petchey!

Chrystal and some of the choir grab a photo opportunity at the Jack Petchey Awards night at the Kenneth Moore Theatre in Ilford. We are proud to be supported by the Jack Petchey Foundation and enjoy the Awards programme which encourages us to recognize members who make a particularly strong contribution to Solid Harmony, for whatever reason. Well done Aaron, Jasmine, Junior, Naomi, Opeyemi, and Chrystal (Young Leader Award!), and to all the other young Award Winners!

ONE VOICE!

This evening Solid Harmony took part in the ONE VOICE event at the Barbican, London EC2. They were invited as a guest performance in the programme sung by ARK Schools massed choir. Not only did several of them act as Young Mentors throughout ARK schools massed choir rehearsals for the event and sing with the children, but they sang 2 pieces on their own to demonstrate what can be achieved with commitment and hard work.

We really enjoyed the opportunity and hope we have inspired many more young people to continue to develop their singing through school and community choirs. It's great fun!
