First of all Happy New Year to all - I know we are in March but it
doesn't mean we can't celebrate 2006! Hope you have all had a great
break/holiday/hibernation.
Yes it's been a while since you last
heard from us, but we haven't disappeared! The choir is currently
working on some new repertoire and aim to have this ready for you very
soon. Although S.H. have been quite low-key, some of the members have
been rather busy!
Naomi & Priscilla took part in a number of events in recent weeks, most noticeably The Big Sunday. The event which was held at London's ExCeL was a triumph for the borough of Newham! I (Chrystal) also performed at the event with REVELATION, and some of our former members where there to get involved in the day!
And
the men have been going through some advanced training with
singer-songwriter Randolph Matthews. As part of this 4-week project
they have been developing their range as well as performance and
confidence!

One last thing before I sign off, the choir are now a part of the MySpace network! You can check them out here or copy this link into your browser: www.myspace.com/solidharmony
Well, that's all for now, but don't forget to keep popping by for the latest info on the choir!

Solid Harmony wowed the audience with their lively choreography, and thoughtful lyrics. It was definitely a night to remember!

Students from NewVIc, Cumberland and Portway Primary, as well as members of Solid Harmony Community Choir
performed at the MEC (Music Education Council) conference yesterday.
They performed 3 pieces; 2 arrangements of pieces they learned with
Hugh Masekela 2 years ago, and one song written and workshopped for
them by Paul Watson.
They were then invited to take part in a discussion about what
music making means to them, what their aspirations were and what they
would change about music education if they could. I was very proud
of all 5 students, who conducted themselves impeccably. They
performed with confidence and energy, they entered the discussion with
Christina from Youth Music and the other students with interesting and
revealing comments.
The audience of Music advisers and representatives
from all over the country were motivated to respond and ask questions.
On their part, our group heard students from the Brit school perform
their own songs, a student from the Royal Academy play a Bach violin
sonata and a student from Guildhall sing an English folk song a
cappella.

The performance was very good, as it went well accordingly to the way we
rehearsed it. The choir also had some very positive feedback from the
audience, whom seemed to really enjoy the repertoire that we performed.
It was also very interesting to experience other cultures and
traditions. There were also some varieties of different types of goods
from different countries all over the world, which was very tasty and
delicious. They also had traditional dances from all over the world as
well as a fashion show.
It was a fun day for all of us, I hope they hold this event again next year!

Solid Harmony would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the Jack
Petchey Foundation and their donation of £2000 to the choir and their projects.
Stephen Corriette presented the cheque to the choir during rehearsal and
was treated to a sneak peek at some of the new material they have been
working on.
